About the Forestry Yearbook

 

The Forestry Yearbook Website was established to be used in conjunction with the ITGA Forestry & Timber Yearbook, which is regarded as the definitive directory and reference yearbook for the Irish forest industry.

The ITGA Forestry & Timber Yearbook is a substantial colour publication containing:

The latest edition of the Yearbook has expanded beyond the confines of the forestry and timber industry to include all aspects of the renewable energy sector, environmental consultancy, mapping services, research, education, etc.

Copies of the Current Edition can be ordered Online.

The Forestry & Timber Yearbook is circulated to all sectors of the Irish Forest Industry including timber growers, wood processors and their customers, the timber trade, forest companies, contractors, foresters, forestry consultants, State agencies and financial institutions as well as the media.

Editorial & Design - Donal Magner

DonalMagner

Donal Magner, editor and forester has worked in most sectors in the Irish forestry and forest products industry including forest management and wood promotion with the Forest Service and Coillte and in his current roles as forestry communications consultant with Magner Communications, forestry editor with The Irish Farmers Journal and secretary of the Wood Marketing Federation. He holds a master’s degree in forestry from UCD and is the author of the critically acclaimed Stopping by Woods: A Guide to the Forests and Woodlands of Ireland.

Co-editor of a number of publications including Woodspec – A Guide to Designing, Detailing and Specifying Timber in Ireland the comprehensive manual aimed at architects, engineers and designers, he is a recipient of the prestigious Royal Dublin Society-Forest Service Judges’ Special Award for his contribution to Irish forestry.

He is the Irish member on the Advisory Board of SIMWOOD, the EU body addressing timber mobilisation in Europe.

 

Yearbook Director - Donal Whelan

DonalWhelan

Donal Whelan is an Agricultural Science (Forestry) graduate from UCD and is Technical Director of the Irish Timber Growers Association (ITGA) and principal of Commercial Forestry Services Ltd. forestry project management consultants.

Donal has worked on various industry initiatives and developed the ITGA Template Master Tree Sales Agreement, the ITGA Timber Sales Dispatch System and the ITGA Wood Price Quarterly (WPQ) information initiative which was developed in association with UCD. Donal was also engaged on ITGA submissions to Government including those relating to forestry taxation, the 2025 Agri-Food Strategy and the Forestry Bill.

A member of several industry groups including the COFORD Council, Donal was recently appointed chairman of the Forest Policy Review Group. He also compiled a series of five COFORD 'Forestry 2030' Papers with industry experts highlighting the contribution of Irish forestry to the State.
